Evangelia (Lilian) Tsourdi

Departmental Lecturer in International Human Rights and Refugee Law


Evangelia (Lilian) Tsourdi is a Departmental Lecturer in International Human Rights and Refugee Law. She was previously a Max Weber Fellow at the Law Faculty of the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence (2016-2017). She obtained her PhD at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) on the administrative governance of the EU asylum policy. She holds LLMs in International Human Rights Law (University of Essex) and Public International Law and a BA in Law (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens), and is an attorney of the Athens Bar Association.

Lilian’s expertise lies in EU, Public International, Human Rights and Public Law. On these topics she has published, among others, in Human Rights Law Review, Refugee Survey Quarterly, and the Maastricht Journal of European and Comparative Law. Lilian has undertaken research in asylum and migration for NGOs, UNHCR and the EU institutions, and has policy experience, including as policy advisor to a Member of the European Parliament. She has been invited to give numerous lectures (EUI, NYU Florence, International Association of Refugee Law judges), as well as present her research findings to governments (‘European Commission Contact Group Meeting’, and ‘UNHCR Global Consultations’).
